The parent take

U-pick farm in the northwest where kids pull their own peaches and veggies off the plant — but in summer it's only open Tue/Thu/Sat 7-10am, so this is an early-morning outing. Entry is free; you just pay for produce. Budget 1-1.5 hours and bring water, hats, and a wagon if you have one.

Gilcrease Orchard is a nonprofit you-pick orchard and farm in Centennial Hills that has operated for decades as a Las Vegas family tradition. In early July, picking typically includes peaches, early Gala apples, tomatoes, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, onions, garlic, and melons as they ripen. Summer visits are free with no ticket required — you pay by weight for what you harvest. A small stand sells shaved ice, breakfast burritos, and their well-known apple cider in season.

Know before you go

Arrive right at 7am — it gets hot fast and popular crops get picked out. Closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, water. What's ripe changes weekly, so check thegilcreaseorchard.org or their social pages the night before. Fall pumpkin season (Oct) is a completely different, much busier experience.
